Uni Life Episode 2: First Term Recap

Thus ends my first term at university. I’ve learned many lessons over the past few months and not just in lectures.

I’ve learned that sometimes you will struggle when dealing with roommates. You’re a group of people coming together from different backgrounds and experiences, trying to live together under the same roof. There will be disagreements on dishes and cleaning and electricity among others. There will be problems with friends and noise levels. Sometimes you may just not like them based on who they are.

I’ve learned that first-year spread is a real thing and its almost inevitable. Weight gain is a normal thing to go through when you’ve just moved out and you don’t know how to cook for yourself properly. It is important to find a balance and to realise its kay to splurge or treat yourself every once in a while so long as you remember to still eat your fruits and veggies.

If you are running away from something, living at your university won’t make it go away. It’s just holding off the inevitable until it really explodes. Talk to people, be open about your problems and do your best to not go to bed angry or upset. Issues with ex-friends or boyfriends or even family members can have a severe impact on your mental health and thus your overall well being. Do your best to address issues head-on and to deal with them in the best way for you.

Finally, remember that at the end of the day, you need to do what makes you happy. Whether that is university or working or traveling, you need to identify what fills you with joy and d everything you can to do that. You must always be your first priority. If something is taking away from your happiness and fulfillment, cut it out. If that is a bad habit or toxic friends, identify it and remove it from your life. Your well-being is what is most important before anything else.

I hope you all have an incredible week and you do you.

All my love,

Jos xx
